Penn State Ranks High As "Party School," Other Things

Gee anonymous number two, what's your story? My first thought was that the Penn State Grassroots Network must hand out serious swag to people that make positive comments about Penn State on blogs and message boards. But since you are anonymous, they wouldn't know whose account to credit. Perhaps then you just work for the Old Main propaganda shop, so you don't get paid by the piece.

As far as job placement goes, every machine needs cogs and Penn State makes them by the box load. It's some assembly line.

Penn State Ranks High As "Party School," Other Things

Shameless blogwhoring warning!

I wrote a couple of posts on this ranking today. Who didn't?

Here are the links.

In first post, I noted that the Old Main propaganda shop is critical of Princeton Review rankings when they don't fit in with their marketing plan, but they pimp the rankings on their Web site when it fits in. In the third post, I note that they scrubbed the Web site after my first post.

To bad Princeton Review doesn't have a category for "School With Least Scrupulous Administrators", Penn State would clean up.

If It Drinks Like A Frat ...

Okay, I'll play. The guy on the right is holding the urine sample the guy on the left just gave. Am I right? Posted 07/19/2008 10:58 PM

If It Drinks Like A Frat ...

Good post Ha-Mace.
When I read the letter this morning, my first thought was that this guy didn't come up with this on his own. Sure enough.....
Dr. Baker discussed risk management issues as well as the responsibility of fraternity members at Penn State to act like Fraternity men, not “frat boys”.

The Amazing Exploding Toilets of State College

The superlanky, bespectacled Alex comes up with a first-person sports story in the show in which he participates in football practice. Nerd-teasing ensues, but no serious injuries. Alex, by the way, will attend Penn State in the fall to study sports journalism.

According to this article, Alex's last name is Augert. Just in case you want to check the directory come Fall.

Things To Do At Penn State During The Summer: Take In A Baseball Game

Ha-mace, the owners held a contest to name the team. Here's the press release announcing the winner.
http://www.oursportscentral.com/services/releases/?id=3242916
You're probably right about the slogan being a play on words Buck/Buc. It was likely an after thought though. When they announced the winner of the contest, the team was still affiliated with St. Louis and they played their the 2006 season, their first, as a St. Louis farm team. The announcement of the Pittsburgh affiliation didn't come until September of 2006.

And according to that Wikipedia article the name spike also refers to the a railroad spike. Who knows?

You mock "Fear the Deer". Have you ever driven around her at night during hunting season?

Things To Do At Penn State During The Summer: Take In A Baseball Game

Let me demystify the Spikes name and the deer mascot. Young deer sometime have small horn like antlers called.....you got it spikes.
A picture is here.

http://www.pbase.com/moving_waters/image/81566084

Hence the team name Spikes and the mascot is a play on words. Baseball players fot footwear of choice are spikes and the mascot is a young deer with spike antlers.

The Pirates' nickname the Bucs is derived from the synonym for pirate buccaneer and has nothing to do with deer.

The owners of the Spikes must like word play. They also own the Altoona Curve.
Altoona is the home of the Horseshoe Curve.

...and pitchers throw curves.

Hey, it's summer, no ones reading my blog and I've got nothing better to do
than to lecture you on triva.

Cereality Update ... Still Closed

First you posted on Player turning into Indigo. Next you posted on Cerality closing. I was going to make a Jenifer Thomas joke, but I was too lazy. Thanks for doing for me.

BTW, speaking of lazy, what's with your fellow blogger Penny. Given that she posts condensed PSU press releases, she must be a protege of Bill Mahon or a student of Jenifer Thomas.

I Don't Think I Want People In 2055 To See This Video

Great catch.

My first thought on the video was how appropriate that they decided to put a marketing video in the time capsule. My second thought was none of these students talked about the challenging courses or the professor that inspired them. The girl that mentioned the Playboy anecdote was the only one that even came close to saying anything about academic rigor, but only in a backhanded way, i.e. not everyone is drunk all the time, some of have to study. Ringing endorsement that.

Most alumni who think at all about Penn State are obsessed with how much longer the University will be stuck with JoePa. They really should be concerned with how much longer Graham will be here. Oh, but then again they are products of Penn State.

BTW, Ha-mace keep of the good work. I've been disappointed with new bloggers here at OTR.
