College Road Trip: The End

College Road Trip: The End

Yesterday saw the completion of our road trip, finishing it off in Colorado Springs, where my parents have moved. After Russ and I spent the day hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park, we met the girls at a BBQ held by Emily’s friends. Beer and burgers were a good way to finish a 9 mile hike. After this, we hopped in the car, drove down to Col...

College Road Trip: Denver

College Road Trip: Denver

Well when you have been on the road with someone for almost a month, you are bound to get annoyed with the person no matter how much you like them, especially when the communication goes out the window. Hence, half our 8-hour car ride was a little tense on the way back to Denver, as A and I realized that we hadn’t quite clearly laid out our plan...

The Long Road Home

The Long Road Home

So yesterday was just a little crazy (no time to post), and today hasn’t been any easier. Russ, A and I left Portland around noon and went directly east along the Columbia River on the old scenic highway moving through Oregon. We stopped at several of the waterfalls that plunge off of cliffs hundreds of feet high into streams that feed into the ...

The Sabbath and the Beginning of the End

The Sabbath and the Beginning of the End

We do apologize for the delay in posting. So make up for it, we are posting several back-entries today.

I have decided that I do not want to become the stereotypical ‘50s housewife when I get married and feel the need to host dinner parties complete with pasta and dessert. Don’t get me wrong, dinner parties with friends and couples are more ...

College Roadtrip: The University of Oregon

College Roadtrip: The University of Oregon

Back in the car today, but only for a short while as we drive to visit A's childhood home, meet up with an old friend, and then head on up to Portland for more fun and revelry.

We got an early start and left before anyone was up, as A strongly dislikes goodbyes. As we round through the back country roads to Eugene, A told me funny stories of g...

College Roadtrip: Oregon State & the Pac-West

College Roadtrip: Oregon State & the Pac-West

On our first day of rest and relaxation, we decided to have a slow morning, going for a walk around the OSU campus, enjoying the scenery and reminiscing over my years at school here (I went to OSU for two years before transferring to ‘Cuse). After this, we decided to go on a little trip to the Oregon Coast.

As is fairly usual, we found the ...

How to See San Francisco in 4 Hours

How to See San Francisco in 4 Hours

(With a street side breakfast, one tandem bike, and sweet talking people into free parking)

We knew today would be a busy day, so we got up early and were back in the saddle. J is thinking about grad school at Stanford, so we decided to take a quick detour through the campus to see how it looked, and while it was beautiful, the campus seemed mo...

College Roadtrip: California Not So Fabulous

College Roadtrip: California Not So Fabulous
Lo siento to all you LA fans whose bubble I’m about to burst.

Our first stop was Newport Beach, and the bad LA vibe was quick to set in. The sand was a yellow mustard color, and the boardwalk was filled with repetitive tourism junk – not exactly a unique feel.

While the water was warm, there were so many parking lots that ran right up to the

Latest comment by Anonymous: HA! Newport beach is full of ****s anyway. Never judge a big city by one if it's suburb (orange county) beach towns.
I moved to LA a year ago and have met lots of amazing talented people.

College Roadtrip: Land of Polygamists?

College Roadtrip: Land of Polygamists?
Slow to wake up, slow to get moving, and slow to find food ensured that we missed breakfast, and affirmed the fact that Utah hospitality is nothing compared to Texan hospitality. After two tries for a short stack and some sunny-side up goodness, we settled for a knock-off of a Philly cheese steak and a Cinnabon -and they didn’t even come close.

College Roadtrip: Halfway to Colorado

College Roadtrip: Halfway to Colorado
You don’t realize how preciously good a shower feels until you haven’t had one for days, even if it is only for 4 minutes.

And let me just say that a shower was greatly needed. After 5 or 6 days (I honestly lost count), and a stinking car, I begged A to stop at a random State Park off of I-25, south of Colorado Springs, for a quick shower. The
