On June 19th, Steven Spielberg was awarded the Hugh Downs Award for Communication Excellence. The ASU population is still wondering, "Who gives a lemur's lump of fecal matter about this award?"
ASU started giving this award about a year ago, the first winner was Larry King, and Hugh Downs is a random name attached to its existence. Hugh Downs didn't even graduate from ASU, so we are still trying to find the relevance here. Even in Spielberg's acceptance speech, he seems unaware of ASU's affiliation with the award. At the end, Spielberg tacks on a meager thank you to ASU.
Hugh Downs, we're sorry, but I am sure your presence would be appreciated at Wayne State University or Columbia (which are schools he actually attended). The whole affair makes as much sense as a pact between 17 teenage girls to get pregnant at the same time.
At least this year's recipient has a remote affiliation with the state of Arizona.
:::Sigh:::
When will it ever make sense?

Stumble It

They developed it a year ago and it slips under the radar of the student body. Plus, it's not the University that chooses the recipient, it's Hugh Downs. Hugh Downs has no affiliation with ASU. Posted 06/26/2008 11:41 AMReply
