The new Student Center has been open since school started and there is still no official name. Apparently, the Board of Trustees wants all the money they can get someone to donate $25 million and then they will name the building after the donor. I don’t know what people have the kind of money to do something like that. But more power to them.

Students are calling for the new center to be named after James E. Foy, former dean of students at Auburn. The old student union has bared his name for the past 31 years. Foy’s daughter, Susan Spratling Foy (of course she kept the last name) told The Auburn Plainsman she thinks the new center should be named after her father:

She said, "Daddy dedicated his life to the development of the whole person at the University, personality and a strong character. I believe that is the sort of goals and ideals the students intended to establish a memorial to when they named the Auburn Union, wherever it might be, the James E. Foy Student Union or Student Center."

Dean Foy has been a staple at Auburn for many years, even after his retirement. That says a lot about his legacy. The new union should definitely be named after him. If these big donors love Auburn so much, then they should want to donate without needing a big incentive. Then again, I’m in no place to talk since my profile on OTR does say C.R.E.A.M. (Cash Rules Everything Around Me).
