At Boise State and nationally, students encouraged not to vote

Declare Yourself, a national non-partisan group focused on encouraging young people to vote, is at it again. In the recently uploaded sequel to ‘Don’t Vote,’ the pro-voting campaign once again taps a myriad of celebrities to convince youth to register and hit the booths.

Some highlights of the video are Justin Timberlake justifying himself with the line “I was in a boy band, I can do anything,” Borat’s well timed “NOT!” or his “I lika porno!” and a brief appearance by Zach Braff.

This is a large step Declare Yourself has taken to remain public friendly. At the time of their inception in 2004, there were some very disturbing commercials aimed towards shocking youth to vote. ‘Dog food,’ ‘Phat ride’ and ‘Vanity’ all emphasized not caring, then ended with the main character from the commercial in some sinister situations.

Hopefully BSU students catch on to the sarcasm and watch the entire thing. I’d like to hope that that would not be an issue, but this is a campus that routinely makes me question my faith in humanity.
