Top five drinking games (in ascending order of how drunk you get)

When going to parties, it is important to know how hammered you want to be by the end of the night. Setting a limit on how many drinks you consume or bringing friends to cut you off are two practical, yet somewhat boring, ways to make sure you don’t end up making a bigger fool of yourself than you plan on doing. Next time someone starts to offer you copious amounts of alcohol, just offer up playing one of these games to suit the mood you planned for the night.

A good buzz:
Quarters- This game doesn’t require too much drinking, but requires good motor skills. As soon as the participants start to feel the alcohol, the game usually ends shortly after. Just be careful not to be the first to get drunk, because if your motor skills go before everyone else’s, the drinks are just going to keep on coming.

Tipsy:
Flip cup- Again, the beer you drink is limited due to not much alcohol in the cups you play with. This does require you to chug at times which can get you beyond the buzz level. Good dexterity is required so the group usually looses interest in this game quickly too.

Drunk:
Beer pong- The competitive nature of this game and seemingly endless opponents end up pushing you over the drunken limit. These sessions usually end up running the whole night through. This allows for more alcohol to be consumed but involves slower drinking compared to some alternatives.
!!Caution!! This game often heralds in beer goggles.

Hammered:
Up the river, down the river- Each game ends up with plenty of alcohol passed out and received. Vindictive natures can cause this game to escalate and consumption to get out of control. Try to keep the cards from getting wet.

Blacked out:
Edward forty-hands – The reason why anyone would propose this game eludes rational explanation. Make sure only people you trust have cameras because you’ll end up getting some interesting stories the next day. Anyone drinking to this extent better be expecting to take the whole next day to recover.

Simply duck-tape two 40's (one to each hand) and go at it. You can't free a hand til you finish both so... good luck. Again, I really don't recommend it for anyone who values their brain cells (although I can't say I've never done it.) Posted 10/17/2008 10:27 PMReply

I've seen Edward Forty-Hands done once, and that was freshman year at Ithaca College.
I didn't partake in the festivities, but from the pictures that were on my camera, looks like some people had a little too much to drink...

Either way, it's a fun little game, and you should only do it if you intend on getting blacked-out drunk...
