Not much is expected of Ohio State this year. After losing the bulk of their talent to the draft and graduation, the Buckeyes are a brand new team. Hell, the Buckeyes aren't even ranked in preseason polls. Following yesterday's preview of the Guards, here is a preview of the Ohio State Forwards and Centers.
Forwards
Leading the way at Small Forward will be freshman Evan Turner. Turner provides a slasher. He is much like Ron Lewis without the outside game. Look for him to tear up defenses. Backing him up will be another freshman, Eric Wallace. Wallace is a more physical player than Turner and will see minutes when defense is key. Wallace is not as highly touted as the rest of the recruiting class, but he is the sharpest of the players on defense.
At Power Forward there is a bit of a struggle for who will get the most minutes. In all likelihood, Matta will play a three forward and two guard system, rather than play a center. Look for Othello Hunter to start early in the season. He showed a lot of promise last year in limited time. He is not an offensive juggernaut, but provides solid defense. Behind him is freshman sensation Kosta Koufos. Some consider Koufos a center because of his 7'1" height, but he is more like a Dirk Nowitzki mold. Koufos is able to hit shots from any spot and can drive with the ball. His main setback is his defense, but its manageable. The third option here will be Dallas Lauderdale. Dallas posses the qualities of a Terence Dials, but much more raw. Look for him to get playing time much later in the year.
Centers
Center is the biggest question mark for the Buckeyes, the biggest question being if local Kyle Madsen can deliver on his potential. Madsen is a transfer from Vanderbilt who had to sit out last year. If given a chance, he could prove to be a great sixth man. The last man on the roster is best known for being dubbed "adequate reserve" during March Madness last year, Matt Terwilliger. Twig is in the last season of eligibility and may look to finally prove himself. He has shown flashes of brilliance, but has been marred by a lack of effort. Hopefully he steps up his excitement and delivers.
