Revision: The Street Painting Festival has been postponed to next weekend, October 4th. Apparently, and tell me this isn't INSANE, there's a 100% chance of rain tomorrow for Providence. Really? 100%? I thought there were no guarantees in life, especially when it comes to the weather, but nope, the Weather Channel assures me rain, no matter what. Oh yeah? Let's see what my anti-rain dance has to say about that! Muhahaha!
Any Brown students feeling the need to get down and dirty with some charcoals this weekend? I'm registered for a 4 foot x 4 foot square down at the Bank of America Skating Rink Saturday morning, but my mom's coming up for an impromptu weekend visit so I can't make it. (I'm imagining trying to convince my mother to get down on her knees on concrete to draw with chalk, but it just ain't happening. If you want to go, show up by 11 am and say you are a part of my team. When I signed up, I signed up as a team, so no one will give you a hard time, I promise. It's completely free, drinks are provided (N/A, I'm afraid. Bring your own booze.), and you could win prize money. Also, there will be great music playing all day, and it will be a great way for you to represent our school. Who wants my square?
The Providence Street Painting Festival is a yearly event. Here's what their website says:
"Admission is free! Approximately 300 professional and amateur artists from New England will create 165 works of art on the surface and walkways of the Skating Center. For best views of artists working, come between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. The art is on view all day, until the event closes at about 10 p.m. There will be music from noon on, food concessions will be open all day, and draft beer will be on sale in the afternoon and evening.
What is the Street Painting Festival all about?
It's a celebration of art and artists in Providence, where businesses and individuals come together to donate time, money, and talent to benefit charitable causes focused on children and youth in the Providence area. Artists of all ages volunteer to create art on “canvasses” donated by our generous sponsors. At the end of the day the prizes are awarded. Under 12; Middle School; High School awards are presented at 5:00p.m., the College and Adult prizes at 7:00 p.m., and the “People’s Choice Awards” at 9:30 p.m. The total award pool is $3,000!"
The rain date is October 4th, so if you are interested and its raining, you can join my team the following weekend! I'm open to suggestions about the art we should make, too! Let's show Providence that the RISD students aren't the only ones who can make great art!
