Trust me, this exhibit is freaking awesome. I've already posted about it two times, and I'll keep posting about it until you finally take a hint, yo: just go check out the freaking art! This isn't your grandma's boring art, and it isn't your parents' ugly hippy art; Pixilerations has high tech, smarty art that will leaving you amazed at how simple it looks and how difficult you'd find it to recreate the project in your own house. With artists from Brown, RISD, MIT, and more, you know it's gotta be good.
For example: when have you ever been insulted by an art exhibit? And, no, I don't mean insulted as in "I am insulted by how terrible this art is" insulted*, but "My granny is stronger than you!" insulted. Andrew Ames, from Jamaica Plains, Mass, designed "Mano A Mano," an art exhibit that requires participation of two people. This high tech arm wrestling match works with elbow pressure and hands on metal to create a FANTASTIC wrestling arena that encourages and insults the players.
[* I felt insulted by terrible art at the grand opening of RISD's Chace Center addition to the RISD Museum. If you, too, want to HATE artists, check out the student gallery and prepare to vomit. Really. It's that bad.]
Want to check it out? You should! It's free, it's fantastic, and you'll be smarter just for looking at the art. Take a geeky date with you, and you are practically guaranteed to score that night. It's that cool.
The two galleries involved are:
Sol Koffler
169 Weybosset Street
&
"we're too cool to name our gallery"
191 Westminster Street
Both are open every day from now through October 12, from Noon to 8 PM. Even if you haven't been to a gallery since that unfortunate seventh grade field trip when you made the mistake of touching the art and paying for it with your dignity, you ought to check this out. It isn't often that you are encouraged to interact and play with the art so go and touch the art (but don't touch the artists without permission.) Don't let the fact that one of the galleries is so hip that it doesn't have a name make you miss this awesome exhibit!
