Who sends telegrams in this day and age? No one, that’s who.
Still, the Brown chapter of the Medical Students for Choice hopes to revive the age-old custom of communicating through the postal service—rather than by e-mail or instant messaging—with their new fund-raising scheme, the Condom-Grams.
While the price has yet to be announced, the proceeds from the sale of each Condom-Gram will go towards educating the members of the MSFC on reproductive health-related issues not taught at their medical school.
What does each safe-sex telegram contain, aside from the painfully obvious?
The Brown Daily Herald reports:
The Condom-Grams - covered in foam Halloween decorations, like pumpkins, witches and spiders - contain a condom, a chocolate and a holiday-inspired greeting.
A note on the gram reads, "Someone is wishing you a safe and happy Halloween - because nothing is scarier than unsafe sex!".
[…] Susan Scavone '12 said she was sending hers to someone on her floor. "I thought it'd be a really funny joke," she said. "He's gonna get it and be like, umm..."
Yeah – “umm, where’s my candy?!” At least, that’s how any Halloween-loving person would respond.
Regardless, the idea is relatively innovative, and it is a good cause, so hopefully, the MSFC sees good returns on this campaign.
