Reasons NOT to Crash Carnegie's Graduation

Reasons NOT to Crash Carnegie's Graduation
Al Gore only has time to speak at one college graduation this year (and sorry, it's probably not yours). Let's just hope this speech goes more smoothly than the one in '07...

This week, Al Gore is wresting himself away from his TV station, venture capital firm and quest to educate the world about the science behind global warming -- just long enough to speak at Carnegie Mellon's 111th commencement ceremony. He's also receive an honorary doctorate of "humane letters" from the school.

The 2007 Nobel Peace Prize winner has long spoken out about the importance of young Americans to the future of the country (especially in terms of our influence over global climate change). He even began Current TV to get the 18-24 set more politically involved.

Just don't tell the powers that be at CM that Gore failed six out of the seven classes he took his freshman year at Harvard. Or that he dropped out of both Vanderbilt Divinity and Law School...

But for someone with such a spotty academic record, the former VP is really racking up the honorary degrees. Last spring, Gore spoke at the graduation for Montreal's Concordia University, where he received an honorary doctorate degree -- and a nasty student response, complete with booing and cat-calls.

He's loosened up a lot since his wooden presidential run in 2000, but will Gore be able to laugh it off if Carnegie Mellon students point out his eco-hypocrisy (and expanding waistline)?

What evidence do you have that Gore flunked 6 of 7 classes during his freshman year at Harvard? I thought he graduated cum laude?

And what evidence do you have that he "dropped out" of Vanderbilt Divinity School. I thought he was a non-degree student there. As to the law school, he "dropped out" when he was elected to Congress in 1976. Perhaps you might share that aspect of his "spotty" record with your readers.

For someone so young you are filled with a lot of hate (and hot air). So sad! Posted 05/14/2008 03:20 AMReply

the comment about the "big fat" jet is untrue. i understand it is an "hybrid" jet that gets almost 30 gallons to the mile through the use of fuel and hot air. Posted 05/14/2008 5:55 PMReply

The first 'anonymous' response is spot on. Gore did graduate cum laude and he was a non-degree student at Vanderbilt Divinity, and only left Law school when he was elected to Congress. Clearly this author is one of the sad quasi-conservative young folks who can't stand to see a Democratic leader achieving such global popularity after Bush's 2000 "win". As for the 3rd anonymous comment...lol @ the "hybrid jet" remark. Come on. Don't write that nonsense here. Posted 05/15/2008 03:54 AMReply
