Last month, the Guinness Book of World Records declared 18-year-old American prodigy Alia Sabur to be the “World’s Youngest Professor”. The record was previously held by 18th century Scotsman Colin Maclaurin who, at the age of 19, became a professor at Marischal College. I don’t know what’s more unbelievable – the ages of these kid geniuses or the fact the Guinness Book has records that go back 300 years.
This past Tuesday, Alia officially became a full-time professor at Konkuk University in Seoul, South Korea. She’s now just 19 years old and will be teaching a class on cell science to graduate students. That’s right; she will be teaching students significantly older than her. Hope she’s stern with them, because I imagine some people might have trouble taking directions from a “kid”. Then again, it’s Korea, so she won’t be dealing with the typical American frat boys.
Congratulations to Alia for her accomplishment. I’m just proud to know that she is an American. Maybe now foreigners will stop thinking we’re all idiots. Lofty thoughts, I know.

And she proved that there's no wonder of age for being a professor...!! Posted 04/28/2008 01:19 AMReply
