UPDATE: Police sources have said that Todd admitted to making up the story that a mugger attacked her due to a McCain bumper sticker on her car. After some inconsistencies in her story emerged, police administered a polygraph test, though the results have not been released. Todd will face some sort of charges thanks to these antics.
Ashley Todd, a student at Blinn College, claims that Wednesday night she was attacked at knifepoint in Pittsburgh, and that it somehow had to do with a McCain sticker on her car. The mugger, obviously an Obama supporter, robbed Todd and then carved a “B” in her face. I suppose we are to believe this “B” is for Barack? Or perhaps bullshit, much like the story itself.
Perhaps the 20-year-old from College Station, Texas (shout out to Texas A&M!), did suffer through a brutal attack, and maybe, just maybe, it was spurred on by her love of McCain. But, then again, there are some reasons to believe something is off about the whole tale. The AP reports:
Todd told police she was withdrawing money just before 9 p.m. Wednesday when a man approached her from behind, put a knife to her neck and demanded money, police said. She said she gave him $60.
The robber then noticed the bumper sticker, punched her in the back of the head, knocked her down and used the knife to carve a "B" on the right side of her face, the woman told police.
It turns out that “B” on her cheek is backwards. Hmm, how could that happen? I mean unless it was done in the mirror, not that I’m suggesting anything. Oh, and the woman declined medical treatment, so it must not have been a deep cut. Glad the mugger was so considerate as to keep the wound superficial and clean, while he was busy beating the shit out of the rest of her.
Then again, the story, as bizarre as it is, may be true, in which case Ashley Todd deserves sympathy and justice for this horrible crime. If it’s not true, though, you have to wonder what kind of person would maim herself all in the name of love for John McCain… well, except for Cindy McCain, but that’s just called plastic surgery.

I do feel this poor girl was indeed attacked and angry, and scratched the B into her face in the mirror. It is backwards, it is well-shaped (Have you ever tried carving with a knife, you never get good curves, you get sharp lines), it is not deep at all (evidently the crook used a butter knife?).
More than a few have said that the area of the mugging is very busy and well-lit. This certainly could have happened and my sympathies to this woman if it is true, but it requires more than a few leaps of faith. Refusing medical attention, taking a while to support the crime, the oddly political nature of the attacker (If the attacker was black and saw the McCain sticker, I would dare say that the attack was more racially motivated- saying "Goshdarnit, You're one of those McCain people?" doesn't seem like the kind of outburst one would expect).
Lastly, she posts on her Twitter account something to the effect of "I have to go look for a bank of America ATM now" which is the setup for why she was attacked and where she was- the problem is she posts this AFTER the attack supposedly took place. Posted 10/24/2008 10:12 AMReply

But a double standard is evident based on the amount of coverage this incident is getting.
Compare it with how little attention has been paid to a recent wave of politically-motivated, violent acts perpetrated by McCain-Palin supporters:

Would you change your vote, if she was telling the truth; or if she was telling a lie; or if it was a white man and a black woman; or if it was a black man and a white woman? It's sort of sickening reading all the doubters/believers who leap from one conclusion to the next. You can almost see the spittle flying as they get all angried-up over something that may/may not have happened. People sure seem in a hurry to think the worst of somebody. If it happened as reported, it doesn't prove anything about the rest of us. If it didn't happen it also doesn't prove anything about the rest of us. Ashley now admits to police that she made the whole thing up.
As always, most liberals were awfully quick to assume she was lying and blaming a possible victim before they knew the story and most conservatives were way too fast in calling for the dogs to track down this 'black assailant' and throwing the racial sh!t at Obama before any facts even came out.
Ms. Todd obviously needs some psyciatric help, and hopefully she'll get it. I'll be supporting Obama, but regardless of the election outcome, this country really needs to do some soul searching and calm the fu<k down.
