At Long, Long Last Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick Pleads Guilty, Resigns

 It’s finally ****ing over.

After months of court dates, felony charges and all-around ridiculous antics, thug-for-life Mayor of Detroit Kwame Kilpatrick will no longer hold office. After being charged with ten (yes, TEN) felonies stemming from an affair coverup with chief of staff Christine Beatty, he finally has agreed to plead guilty to obstruction of justice and will resign Thursday morning as part of a plea deal.

And what is our once-cocky mayor in for? He has to pay the city $1M, lose his law license, give up his state pension and serve 120 days in Wayne County jail. This plea deal allowed all his other charges to be dismissed (including assaulting two police officers, but I guess let’s let bygones be bygones), and he is scheduled for sentencing Oct. 28th

As a native Detroiter myself, I can’t tell you how good it feels that Kwame is finally gone. Up until today, he had maintained he was innocent and refused to leave office, despite the avalanche of evidence against him. Finally, maybe Detroit can have a mayor that’s an example for our children, rather than one that parent’s have to have “special talks” about when he shows up on the news.

I think it’s time for a parade.

It's wonderful that you think being from Grosse Pointe, Troy, Farmington, or whatever upscale suburb is your hometown makes you a "native Detroiter." Posted 09/04/2008 6:42 PMReply

Now that he is going to jail, he truly has become the hip hop mayor. Posted 09/04/2008 10:13 PMReply

@ Anonymous: I always find it interesting that people such as our first commenter love to deliver attacks "anonymously"

If you think you know enough about a person to attack where they may or may not be from, at least be willing to divulge who you are...is that you Radina?

I think having a parade is a great idea - and can we please promise to buy everyone in the audience a beer like Kwame did at the Red Wings' Parade??? Posted 09/06/2008 7:31 PMReply
