Live from New York… It’s Thursday Night Live? Yup, SNL’s election mockery spilled over from its 90-minute Saturday time slot into the primetime last night. And you’re darn right it was worth every minute of it.
The 30-minute installment took on the latest presidential debate at Belmont University. The spoof, featuring a monotone Obama, awkward McCain and Tom Time-Is-Up Brokaw, was a lot more entertaining and just about as informative as the original. After the delicious debate debacle, the show left out all the lame skits that have characterized it in recent years and went straight for the comic gold: Weekend (Weekday?) Update.
This format will be repeated in two more live primetime specials. While a rumored appearance by Sarah Palin did not occur, we can rest assured there are two more opportunities for the bumbling bubbly governor to show her face.
But I for one would rather she say on the moose hunt campaign trail. Although Palin playing Fey playing Palin would be a definite must-see, let's be honest, it would probably fall flat. Someone who is already such a caricature of herself would not do so well caricaturing the caricature. Trust me, that made sense. Just give me my Tina Fey – both on SNL and on the path to the White House.
