Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich is carrying on with life stubbornly ignoring that he was recently arrested on federal corruption charges and the Senate has repeatedly asked for his resignation. In fact, even with the threat of impeachment proceedings hanging over him, Blagojevich has carried on, naming former Illinois Attorney General Roland Burris to the U.S. Senate.
Burris would take over for Obama and conveniently he, too, is black. CNN told me so:
Burris, 71, is African-American. Earlier this month, he said that despite the scandal associated with the seat, he wanted the job.
But as much as Burris wants the job, the Senate is doing its best to prevent that from happening. While the appointment doesn’t have to be approved by the Senate, the Senate could (and will) not allow Burris to be seated.
CNN explains Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s opinion on the appointment:
In a statement released Tuesday, Reid said it was "truly regrettable that ... Gov. Blagojevich would take the imprudent step of appointing someone to the United States Senate who would serve under a shadow and be plagued by questions of impropriety."
"We again urge Gov. Blagojevich to not make this appointment. It is unfair to Mr. Burris, it is unfair to the people of Illinois and it will ultimately not stand," Reid said. "The governor must put the interests of the people of Illinois and all Americans first by stepping aside now and letting his successor appoint someone who we will seat."
In summary, Reid to Blago: Bitch, please.
