Breakin' The Law: Two Sentenced In The Murder of an Ottawa Student

Last January, Jono Krystiniak, a 21-year-old Ottawa University student, was viciously attacked by a group of six unarmed individuals near the Margarita Grill in Grand Rapids.

His injuries were so severe that doctors had no choice but to take him off life support.

For a year, the trials of Eric Freeman, 19, Milton Billibaldo Lopez, 18, Javier Santiago-DeJesus, 18, Ryan Simonson, 18, Casey Therriault, 18, and Luis Alfredo Gaston, 18, have raged on with no clear end in sight.

The Defendants

However, the sentencing for the two who plead ‘guilty’ in October has finally been delivered.

While Luis Gaston received two years in prison, Casey Therriault was slapped with only six months, because witnesses were unable to identifying him as anything more than an accomplice.

Hopefully, the other defendants meet similar fates—if not, more severe ones.
