Waiting in line for groceries, killing time before classes, and vegging out on a lazy Sunday afternoon – we spend all this time reading about celebrity gossip. Between Brangelina’s new babies and Miley Cyrus’ sex industry endorsements stands Barack Obama seeking celebrity status.
John McCain has spent the last week receiving criticism for his latest television ad where he compares his Democratic counterpart to the likes of Paris Hilton and Britney Spears. Barack Obama fired back with another negative ad accusing John McCain of taking the low road for campaigning. The low road? Politicians accusing each other of taking the low road? Really, Obama, really?
According to UrbanDictionary.com, a politician is a "person who so desires power that they have lost all notion of morality and will now do or say anything to acquire more power." Absolutely - the good people at UrbanDictionary.com are right, so let's stop attacking the candidates for attacking each other. At the end of the day, Election Day is just about voting for a lesser evil.
Celebrities, however, have taken it upon themselves to join the campaigns of the candidates and are filling up pages of UsWeekly with their political banter. I don't want to see celebs talking about politics, I want to see who the Jonas Brothers are dating!
Here are just a few examples of celebrities jabbing away about the election . . .
- At a recent Barack Obama fundraiser, Jennifer Garner was quoted as joking, "I'm here to audition for the next John McCain TV commercial."
- Kathy Hilton, mother of Paris, has finally decided to stick her neck out for her daughter while gaining popularity for joining the Obamanation. The Hiltons are rich, white and Republican endorsers, the only reason Mama Hilton is upset about the ad is because the McCain campaigners carefully chose to compare Obama to well-known celebrity screw-ups, including her darling daughter.
- John Voight has come out of hiding only to mock Obama calling him "God-like" and accusing him of "falling short in every way."
So what have we learned here? Celebrities act, they look pretty and get angry about paparazzi. Let's leave the campaigning and trash talking to the politicians, and go back to sunbathing in Saint-Tropez.
