Changes at Vanderbilt Pt. I: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

First and foremost, my apoligies for the brief hiatus. Life has taken a bit of getting used to now that I am an upperclasman here at Vanderbilt. I feel exactly the same way I did as a sophomore, but slightly skinnier and with a much higher level of resentment for all the freshmen.

But enough about me. Vanderbilt itself has definitely undergone some changes; both good and bad. We here at OTR love opinions, and certainly have some to share about both the wonderful and the horrible.

Today's evaluations will cover one of my two favorite things in life..Food. (Who wants to guess the other?)

The Good:  Out with greasy, extreme sports themed CX2, in with clean, shiny, healthy(ish) Chef James Bistro! Fabulous. Did anyone ever actually eat at CX2? I remember wandering in once as a lost freshman and picking up some tater tots and a cheesburger. Within a week at Vanderbilt, I learned that freshmen girls who are rushing do not eat cheeseburgers, and thus my brief affair. CJB has some rather delicious veggie wraps, although I haven't seen the scrumptious strawberrry-blue cheese-walnut salad since move in weekend.

The Bad: No more rollover dollars! Used to be, for every meal you didn't use, Vanderbilt credited $3.10 to your Commodore Card. Although as a junior (Ee!), I still get to take advantage of these benefits (never mind that the actual value of a meal is at least $8 if you pay in cash)--if you're a freshman, rollover no more. Eat you meals on meal plan--all 28 of them, since that's how many you're being charged for, or your parents' money goes to waste. Boo, VU.

The Ugly: Unlike the wonderful 24/7 Munchie Mart in Branscomb, the abysmally small food station at Highland Quad closes at 11pm. ELEVEN PM! And to make matters worse, it doesn't even open until 9am. Yours truly found out the hard way, coming back from Sportsmann's in dire need of nothing more than a simple Pizza lunchable at 3am. Take off 4 inch heels in elevator, eagerly press "B" for Basement, pull out Commodore Card and...I'm greeted with a locked door. Boo, VU, Boo.
