Feliz Cinco de Mayo! (That's happy cinco de Mayo to those few who weren't required to take beginner Spanish classes in elementary and middle school.."Me GUSTA te GUSTAS...")

Cinco de Mayo, at least to us Gringos, is an opportunity to drink cold cerveza and take dangerous amounts of tequila shots, but the holiday actually has a rich history. The holiday celebrates an initial victory in the Mexican war of independence in 1862. Although it is often compared to the 4th of July, Mexico's actual independence day is September 16th and is much more widely celebrated than Cinco de Mayo.

If you're still at Vandy though, celebrate you will! Check out the Cinco de Mayo Fair at the Nashville Fairgrounds or check out the party at La Hacienda Tortielleria (Live music, authentic cuisine, and dancers) or Tin Roof (accompanied by the salsa band and acclaimed beer, Dos Equis). For an always fratty crowd and delicious Mexican food, head to Fiesta Azteca or Las Palmas (both serve $3 margaritas until 7).
