As temperatures drop, so does life around WashU. While we had an amazing and warm fall, winter is now upon us – which means temperatures in the 30s, high winds, rain, eventually snow, and the random kids who don’t understand they need to trade in their flip-flops for real shoes. What constitutes a nice day shifts down about 20 degrees, and all the kids from the South get their yearly dose of Seasonal Affective Disorder (ironically but aptly known as SAD).
After braving the cold outside and settling inside your dorm room or Olin, it’s easy to want to snuggle up with a nice hot liquid, like hot chocolate, tea or coffee.
If your drink of choice is coffee: a new study shows that drinking lots of coffee may shrink your boobs. It won’t happen over night or even over a short period of time, and you have to drink a LOT of coffee (like 5 cups a day). If you’ve been contemplating breast reduction – chug away! If not, you might want to step away from the joe next time you’re in Whispers.
If you prefer a nice hot chocolate: lots of research shows that hot chocolate’s pretty good for you. It has antioxidants and cancer-fighting agents – more than red wine or tea! Plus it’s chocolate – you can’t go wrong! If chocolate isn’t your thing, you can try a white hot chocolate. And if you’re calorie-conscious, just pass up the whipped cream on top.
If you like tea – you can’t really go wrong. White teas have the most antioxidants, and tea in general lowers your blood pressure and cholesterol, and protects against cancer. Now that Whispers offers loose leaf teas (only place on campus – try the Orange Blossom with two scoops of rock sugar!), you can get added benefits – loose leaf teas are generally of higher quality than tea bags, and they are a lot more flavorful. However, you’re going to have to shell out an extra dollar or so to enjoy a loose leaf tea on campus.
What’s your favorite hot drink on campus?
