College Kids Get Boring During Recession, Can't Cover Lameness Without Booze

The econalypse is making college kids lame. First, the coeds had to cut back on the massive quantity of booze normally consumed. That made it more apparent that many of them aren’t all that interesting. Now, they’ve chosen dry news over articles with titles like “69 Ways to Please Your Man.” A recent survey conducted by Anderson Analytics found that college students now list their favorite magazine as TIME, where in 2005 it was Cosmopolitan.

According to Ad Age:

Among college kids' favorite brands: Facebook, Nike, iPod -- and Time magazine.

Those were among the findings of this year's Anderson Analytics fall survey, which since 2005 has posed a series of open-ended questions to college kids about their favorite brands and activities. This year more than 1,000 students across the nation were asked to quickly list things such as a favorite magazine or good book they had read recently.

While in some cases the results were predictable, there were a few surprises. Time magazine, for instance, ranked as the No. 1 magazine, unseating perennial favorite Cosmo and jumping ahead of last year's No. 2, People. CNN.com made it into the top 10 websites for the first time, while sites such as Perez Hilton and CollegeHumor dropped off the list.

Okay, now I understand why people are starting to openly discuss the economic depression: because it’s depressing how lame people get. If college students can’t even enjoy the bitchy queen commentary of Perez Hilton or the rando-fun of College Humor, there’s got to be something gone awry. What’s next? Dormwide Everybody Loves Raymond Marathon parties? I just wish the sickly economy hadn't left me so broke that I can't drink to make these college bores look half fun.
