College Superdelegates Back Obama

Kal Penn, rejoice! The president and vice president of the College Democrats of America, the youngest superdelegates in the country, are voting Obama. That letter he sent must have done the trick.

From the Boston Globe:Barack Obama's rock star-like reception among young voters has been one of the biggest stories of the presidential campaign.
So, it's not stunning that this morning, he announced the support of the president and vice president of the College Democrats of America, who are superdelegates. They pledged to help get their peers to work for Obama.
"We reached out to college students nationwide through Facebook, MySpace and YouTube and the responses were overwhelming. College students want change -- and Senator Obama offers an opportunity for all of us to move forward in this country to talk about the issues that matter," the group's president, Lauren Wolfe said in a statement provided by the Obama camp.
Added the group's vice president, Awais Khaleel: "As college students, we've come of age under the failed leadership of George W. Bush and we are excited that we finally have a candidate who speaks to our issues. Senator Obama is talking about the issues we care about as college students – whether that's college affordability or ending the Iraq war."

I am an Obama supporter, but I think the poster where he is backgrounded by a sun is in very poor taste. It gives the impression that he is like Jesus and a haloed savior. I consider Mr. Obama a man who can unite the country and help heal many divisive wounds in our country; however, I think to even hint at a "god-like" persona is very wrong. Perhaps, if the sun-halo effect were removed, the poster could still convey the hope and dream Mr. Obama represents, but leave out the "divinity-like appearance."

This has been the Obama vibe from the start. It's a personality cult, Anon. You may have rational reasons for supporting Obama (although I wouldn't know what those are), but the majority his supporters aren't supporters - they're followers. I ask Obama followers all the time what it is they like about him and they tell me, "He's a new kind of politician," "He will transcend politics as we know them," "He will lead America to a new future," and so on. Spooky stuff. They're true believer types who think they found the messiah. - Andrew Austin

The "obama vibe", as you put it, is just as legitamate a reason to vote for him as any other.
If a racist can vote against him for no other reason than to vote against the black guy (and there are plenty of racists voting this year), then a young person, who may be uninformed on the issues, can vote for him in support of change, even if that change for them is only skin deep.
That doesn't make his supporters "cult members".

@ Anonymous: Yes, a young, uninformed voter can vote based on the "obama vibe", but that does not make it a good reason. A bad vote based on race does not excuse another bad vote base on a "vibe". I should hope people vote based on other reasons.

Isn't it equally racist to vote for Obama because he is black? What does his skin color have to do with being the President of the United States?
Democrats are fixated with race and identity politics.

Keep hoping! Most people vote for "stupid" reasons.
Seriously though, the poster has GOT to go! Just ditch the beams-of-light-from-heaven thing and it will be better!

Voting for politicians based on feeling and not on experience, policies, and record is the type of blind faith that leads nations into disaster. No better example exists than the president we have endured for nearly eight years. People know very little about Obama. His followers project their wishes on him.

**** Obama! Nader's got it going on! He has years of experience OUTSIDE Washington as a consumer advocate in getting things done. He made our cars safer, our water and air cleaner, and a whole host of other things. Obama has little experience or accomplishments in his 4 years in the Senate. He's just riding on this cult of personality BS with young voters.
I'm not settling for the lesser of two evils, and neither should you. A true democracy doesn't just give you 2 choices. Tweedle-dee vs tweedle-dum. Every ****ing election. A grumpy old rich white guy vs. a goody-two-shoes who thinks he's president already.
