The WVU-Colorado game last night was a huge disappointment for WVU football fans. Hoping to redeem themselves after getting crushed by East Carolina last week, the Mountaineers fell short, losing their second game of three this season.
Aric Goodman made a 25-yard field goal in overtime to give Colorado a 17-14 victory over No. 21 West Virginia on Thursday night.
The Mountaineers had the ball first in overtime, but Pat McAfee's 23-yard attempt clanged off the left upright.
Cody Hawkins threw two first-quarter touchdown passes and Rodney Stewart ran for 166 yards, the most ever by a Colorado freshman, to help the Buffaloes improve to 3-0 for the first time since 2004.
Yeah, it was kind of a slap in the face for the Moutaineers, but to be fair, the Buffaloes are pretty loaded this year with excellent players. They’ve got QB Cody Hawkins, the son of Coach Dan Hawkins who isn’t just getting by on nepotism. They’ve got receiver Scott McKnight. They’ve got tailbacks Darrell Scott and Rodney Stewart, who Pete Thamel of the New York Times wrote “put in a scintillating performace.” In short, Colorado is loaded.
