Countdown to Conan: Fear and Loathing on Late Night Television

Comedy died six months ago when Conan O’Brien reluctantly left NBC in search of greener pastures – that is, a new late-night talk show on a network that isn’t subject to the whims of a painfully-unfunny, square-chinned comedian.

But, fear not, everyone! Comedy returns this November with the start of Conan’s new gig on TBS. To celebrate, we are kick-starting the countdown to Cona-geddon with this classic clip from his time hosting Late Night.

Prior to his untimely death, Hunter S. Thompson, the acclaimed author of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and the father of gonzo journalism, often refused requests for interviews from other journalists. However, he made an exception for Conan—probably after realizing that O’Brien was probably the only person on the planet weirder than himself—and extended an invitation to the comedian to drink liquor and shoot guns on his farm.

Naturally, Conan accepted, and the rest was late-night comedy gold.
