Dane Cook as Dane Cook in My Best Friend's Girl

In My Best Friend’s Girl, Dane Cook plays Tank, a man who as a career disgusts, traumatizes, and offends women, in order to manipulate them into returning to their ex-boyfriends. Except this time, what do you know, he falls for the woman who happens to be his lame best friend Dusty’s girlfriend. This is problematic since Dusty, played by Jason Biggs, is a monogamy-happy, obsessive “nice guy,” though it can hardly be said that stalking one’s ex-girlfriend could be classified as nice.

And surprise surprise, there are scenes in which Tank goes to town on a burrito in the mode of fervent cunnilingus, makes completely inappropriate dialogue while moving his face like a contortionist, and gives himself neurotic, bloviating pep talks so zealous that he appears apt to pass out, i.e. Dane Cook once again plays Dane Cook. Mostly, this is not a terrible thing so much as expected, and I have to say that publicity stunt or not, I love Cook's commentary on the not even remotely appealing movie poster.

While Biggs essentially plays his American Pie character ten years older and a million times more of a commitment freak, and Cook is featured in the movie to perform the antics he always does, Kate Hudson could not be more priceless as her character admits, “I’m a serial monogamist.”

Yes, the three stars essentially play who they always play. Yes, it’s a movie which looks to hold little surprise. Yes you should go see it if you like seeing Cook, Biggs, and Hudson do their usual.
