Dean Pleads With Auburn Fans: Don't Boo Team

It’s a little sad when a dean has to beg the student body not to boo their own football team.

Especially when that team is undefeated and ranked number 10.

But, alas, that’s just the case at Auburn this week. The Dean of Students Johnny Green sent a mass-email imploring students to please “show good sportsmanship” when the team plays Louisiana State on Saturday.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the email states:

“First, please join me by agreeing to demonstrate your support for, and not criticism of, our football team. That means no booing! Remember, the team isn’t trying to lose the game — the players work hard all spring and during fall camp to be ready to compete in the S.E.C.”

Why would students boo a team with such a good record? Apparently fans were not pleased with last week’s ugly 3-2 win against Mississippi State. Get over it, at least they won, which is more than a lot of other schools can say.

But, on the other hand, asking the student body not to boo is practically inviting a chorus of boos. Sorry Johnny, that’s just how it works.
