Fast Food Ban? Say It Ain't So

Fast Food Ban? Say It Ain't So

As the debate over the causes of obesity rages on, officials in Los Angeles are stepping in. The City Council in South L.A. is considering whether to ban new fast-food restaurants for a year to increase residents’ health.

The cheap prices and ease of access of fast food has made it a go-to for low-income people in the area. However, the Council would like to attract healthier restaurants instead.

While the gesture is noble, what about In-N-Out Burger?!?! Without its delicious and welcoming embrace, people may lose the will to live.

In fact, fast food restaurants have been getting a bad rap around the country:

  • Calistoga, CA has nixed all chain restaurants
  • Arcata, CA will only allow nine fast food joints
  • Port Jefferson, N.Y. says no to fast food in its waterfront area
  • McDonalds, Burger King and similar eateries are being forced to insert healthier choices

What do you think? Should the government be interfering in what people eat?? Or should officials keep their hands off your french fries??

Why don't they just bus food from restaurants in rich neighborhoods, to restaurants in poor neighborhoods?

Then the poor people can get thin on organic grass-fed tofu smoothies, and the rich people can use their greater resources to figure out how and where to get decent food within their means.

Or, I know! Maybe a restaurateur could start mud pies like in Haiti.
