Flash Mob Dance Party at Penn's Fisher Fine Arts Library

A few months ago, I witnessed (and blogged about) a perplexing scenario that occurred on The Compass. Well, to be more precise, it was a five-minute pillow fight in the middle of the day, organized by Ahuva Kranzler and a group of her feather-loving friends.

The pillow fight was a flash mob, which can be loosely defined as a huge group of people who gather in a public place, do something outrageous for a few minutes, and then go back to normal. It also sounds like a great item to add to my “relatively legitimate ways to procrastinate” list, as well as an appealing way to blow off steam during Reading Days.

So last night, from 11:00 p.m. to 11:05 p.m., a flash mob of the dancing variety took place at Fisher Fine Arts Library. Just to clarify the difference between Fisher Fine Arts and Van Pelt, Van Pelt is the place you go when you want to barely glance at your psych textbook while eavesdropping on the freshman biddies sitting at the desks across from you. Fisher Fine Arts is a scary building that looks like a gothic church, and it’s so silent you could hear someone zip-up their jeans in the bathroom. Basically, it’s for people really working.

So, it was in the middle of this monastery that a huge group of people stood up and began having a wild 5-minute dance party. There was no music, of course – only iPods and songs in people’s heads.

Check out the video; how confused would you be if you were an innocent bystander?
