Florida Congressman Cliff Stearns Thinks BCS Title Game More Important Than Obama Becoming President

In case you haven’t noticed, the BCS Title Game is tomorrow, and it’s really important… probably more important than anything going on in Congress. At least that seems to be the opinion of Republican Congressman Cliff Stearns of Florida.

Stearns has asked Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi to reschedule a few minor votes so that congressmen from Florida and Oklahoma can see their teams play in the big game in Miami. One such vote he'd like moved includes the certification of the Electoral College vote that will make Barack Obama the next President of the United States.

Yes, he basically just implied that the Gators and Sooners are more pressing than officially making Obama our president.

Sports Rubbish fills us in on what exactly Stearns wrote to Pelosi:

"As you may be aware, on Thursday January 8, the University of Florida and the University of Oklahoma will play for the national football championship. Members of the Florida and Oklahoma delegations have expressed interest in attending the game as the congressional schedule allows. However, votes are currently scheduled to continue into Thursday night and Friday afternoon. We ask that you move these votes to either Wednesday and/or Thursday morning to allow Members to attend this historic game."

Too bad Stearns was completely shut down by Pelosi.

Maybe he should go to the big guy himself next… Obama’s a sports fan, he'd understand.
