As you are probably painfully aware, the dreaded Valentines Day is coming up. Get ready for required presents, forced romance and plenty of desperate girls with high expectations. Holidays are supposed to be fun, aren’t they?

Then again, the general consensus is Valentine’s Day is sort of a made up holiday, engineered by the sneaky folks at Hallmark and the chocolate stores. However, it would hardly be the first fake holiday. There are plenty of offbeat holidays on the calendar and the Internet is chock full of useless national such-and-such days.

But, Valentine’s Day aside, there are some pretty good made up holidays out there. Just look at this selection:

Festivus (December 23): Probably one of the most famous fake holidays these days, Festivus is the holiday for the rest of us. It’s better than lame Chrismukkah because this has a metal pole and feats of strengths.

National Frozen Food Day (March 6): Ronald Reagan himself designated this a day to be celebrated back in 1984. And why shouldn’t we celebrate frozen food – life wouldn’t be the same without that pizza chilling in the freezer. Though to be fair, national frozen food day is practically every day in my house.

April Fool’s Day (April 1): Some may think this is a legit holiday, but alas it is not. How could it be? Who would have decreed: Today is the day you shall prank thy neighbor? But fake or not, it’s awesome… as long as you are in on the joke.

National Talk Like a Pirate Day (Sept. 19): It’s pretty much what it sounds like, but with a lot of “arghhs” and “matey’s” thrown in there. Pirate’s are cool, talking like pirate’s are cool, and having a whole day to celebrate both is cool.

Donald Duck Day (June 9): This day was created to honor the debut of the Donald Duck cartoon. He first appeared in “The Wise Hen” on June 9, 1934. If our presidents from hundreds of years ago get a day, you’re damn right this funny bird should get one too.

Beer Can Appreciation Day (January 24): Finally an appreciation day you can really appreciate. This day commemorates the first time beer was sold in cans and many beer can collectors out there can attest to the importance. In honor of the holiday, go start your beer can collection now. Does Busch Lite count?

World Nude Day (Feb. 6): The best fake holiday ever was created by some crazy Kiwis in New Zealand to celebrate… nakedness. Can’t argue with that. In fact, perhaps it’s time your school gets on board with the celebration.

St. Patrick’s Day (March 17): Okay, so this isn’t really a fake holiday. It’s an Irish tradition honoring Saint Patrick. But if you’re not Irish, it’s just a damn good excuse to drink. Sign me up.
