Gossip Girl's Blake Lively And Penn Badgley Lecture Parents On The Dangers Of John McCain In New Pro-Obama Ad

I’m sure Gossip Girl’s Serena van der Woodsen knows a thing or two about interventions. There was the alcohol abuse, a couple pills here and there, and some really epic meltdowns, but in her most recent intervention, she’s not on the receiving end.

While their TV alter egos were taking Yale by storm in this week's episode, actors Blake Lively and her costar/real life BF Penn Badgley were lecturing parents on the dangers of voting for John McCain in a new pro-Obama commercial. The PSA is part of MoveOn.org’s Youth Vote program and mocks all of those earnest “Talk to your kids about drinking, smoking, sex, tattoos, cleanliness” type of spots.

But this one comes with a message that is actually important. One teen in the commercial says, “Just because other people you’re age are doing it doesn’t make it cool,” while another reminds parents that “Voting Republican even once can have disastrous effects that last for years.” Blake even offers her assistance: “If you’re ever out somewhere and you’re considering voting John McCain, just call me and I’ll pick you up… no questions asked.”

So, this may be the only time I say ever this, take a lesson from the Gossip Girl guys: Have the talk with your parents about the risks of John McCain before it’s too late.
