Guns N’ Roses is angry and it’s all because of Dr. Pepper. Sure, Dr. Pepper generously offered free soda to anyone who wanted to celebrate Guns N’ Roses’ newest album. But they messed it up and now Guns N’ Roses is bringing out the lawyers.
Let’s backtrack a tad. Back in March, Dr. Pepper promised a free, refreshing beverage to everyone in America should Guns N’ Roses’ 17-year-in-the-making Chinese Democracy finally become a reality in 2008.
Then, the album was actually released last week and Dr. Pepper actually followed through on its promise, posting the coupon on its website for 24 hours. Unfortunately, the site couldn’t handle the influx and a firey, firey crash resulted.
Now CNN reports that Axl Rose got so pissed that his fans associated him with this generous though not-so-well executed effort that he called on his lawyers. Forget that Dr. Pepper extended the window for the giveaway to 42 hours, added a toll-free phone line to handle consumer coupon requests and set up an interactive voice recorder to accept the coupon requests. They even gave up the coupon goodies for up to a week after the giveaway to customers who contacted them.
But nooo, that’s not good enough for Guns N’ Roses. A lawsuit could be filed if Dr. Pepper doesn’t do “the right thing.” What do they want? The Soda MD’s first born child? Sorry Axl, you’re just bitter your long-awaited album didn’t take long to bomb.
