Remember Laura Bennett, that pearl-necklaced redhead with all the evening wear designs who accused Jeffrey Sebelia of hiring outside help to complete his line on Project Runway? I didn’t, since I never watched the show, but she’s my new favorite Bravo alum-cum-satirist now that I’ve read her blog post on The Daily Beast providing a bit of friendly advice to fellow mom Sarah Palin.
For weeks Palin’s escapades have resembled a terrible reality television show: a former pageant queen and neophyte politician is thrust into the national spotlight to run for a spot in the White House with a man opposite her in age and beauty—who will be voted out of the White House? Obama-Biden or McCain-Palin? Now someone has finally made the logical leap by noting the conflation of political life and reality television.
Bennett, an architect who obtained her graduate degree in architecture at Columbia University after attending the University of Houston, may have one-upped Palin in education, but the two women have a lot in common Bennett notes in her published letter to the VP hopeful:
Dear Sarah,
Now I am no hockey mom, but as a working mother of six, I totally know where you are coming from. I, too, have a child whose birth date I had to fudge to conceal conception out of wedlock, and a daughter with big boobs. My children have a burning desire to blast any wildlife that crosses their path—mostly New York City park squirrels and rats. I have a son engaged in combat in Iraq, though he is only 12 and it’s just a video game. One of my brood is even a “special.”
Bennett goes on to offer advice to Palin, mom-to-mom, advice such as scheduling a root canal to get away from it all, hiring political pundits to mind the kids, hiding in the bathroom to get “me time,” and getting the first lady to get nasty with Mr. Palin when a long day at the office (or caribou hunting) leaves Mrs. Joe Six Pack low on energy.
Wedlock coverup. Small rodent murder. Pragmatic intra-office spouse swinging. That Laura Bennett is one feisty architect, and do I appreciate her advice to the soon-to-be GILF? You betcha.
