How Tolerant are America's Colleges?
The Campus Tolerance Foundation did a pilot study to assess the level of tolerance at universities in the US. This seminal pilot research is the foundation for a study to be conducted across the nation evaluating the level of tolerance on several issues, including race, gender, sexuality and intellectual standpoints.

The Campus Tolerance Foundation has published its findings in a booklet titled If I'd Only Known: University Students Talk About Tolerance and Safety On Campus. The complete study is complete with quotes and experiences from the contributors.

The Schools Used In The Pilot Study:

1. Columbia
2. Michigan State University
3. UC-Berkeley

The Statistics Thus Far
(1,039 Students Were Surveyed)

1. Likelihood of Date Rape and Sexual Harassment Happening On Campus

65% Michigan State University
40% UC-Berkeley students
39% Columbia students

2. Students That Heard Verbal Insults Directed At GLBTs

53% Michigan State University
47% Columbia
38% UC-Berkeley

3. Hidden Prejudice or Segregation

43% Michigan State University
26% Columbia
34 UC-Berkeley

These are results of a small sample of the students on each campus, so there is a possibility that the numbers are slightly off. Yet, I wouldn't be surprised if the numbers stayed more or less the same.
