I know that it’s good to be paranoid in this day and age, but arresting pigeons on suspicion of spying? Iran, maybe you should lie down for a minute. The pigeons in question were said to have some metal rings on them and “invisible strings” were attached to the bird as well. Sounds like….they wandered into some trash?

I guess pigeons would be one of the best animal spies to use if you were going that route, since you can actually tell them where to go and they’ll do it. This works better than say, a fly-cam (they’re hard to mount) or the bear audio recorder (they don’t exactly blend in).

I’m just skeptical of this whole thing because I’m hoping that we have better methods of spying than tying devices to birds and letting them loose. Although I guess is it “eco-friendly,” if not mild bird exploitation.

No word on the fate of the pigeons, but here’s to hoping they’re not beheaded in a soccer stadium.
