Is Your Relationship Facebook Serious?
Last week one of my roommates sent me a text message with some major news – a friend of ours had just gotten married. Her source? Duh, Facebook! As I frantically went over to our friend’s profile, there it was: Married. We later found out that it was a hoax but what if it wasn’t? Her nuptial announcements would have been on Facebook. It sounds ridiculous but we have all heard or seen it before! Suffice it to say that after someone posted ummmmm my facebook homepage just surprised me.... MARRIED?????????????????? on her wall, she quickly changed "Married" to "In A Relationship".

It’s pretty hysterical when you think about it; everyone in college determines how serious their relationships are by their Facebook status with someone (or lack there of). CNN has recently published an article about how Facebook has taken college students’ lives as well as their romantic relationships. Two students from UNC Chapel Hill have even created a Facebook group called “If your relationship isn't listed on Facebook...it doesn't count!” mocking the severity of Facebook relationships.

According to the social network's website, Facebook has over 70 million users and it's the second most-trafficked social network in the world. With statistics like these, it's no wonder I spent countless hours procrastinating looking at profiles and pictures of people I barely even know. So next time you decide to get "married" on Facebook, make sure you remember that people you haven't spoken to in years are on the prowl!
