It may seem hard to survive at college without a fake ID (thank you very much, current 21 drinking age). But if you get caught with a booming fake ID business, it may be even harder to survive.
Paul Hong, a 19-year-old psychology major, will not be returning to JMU this semester due to a suspension. The entrepreneurial guy was caught running a fake ID factory out of his dorm room, according to DNRonline.com. Now, instead of strolling about Harrisonburg, Hong has been sentenced to five years in jail. Whoa!
But before you start making those “FREE PAUL HONG” signs, don’t worry, the kid got off easy. All but five days of the sentence have been suspended (much like Hong himself), so he'll only have to serve those five days in jail.
Plus, it could have been a lot worse. Police actually raided his dorm to search for drugs when they found multiple fake Kentucky licenses hiding under the bed. Luckily for Hong, the felony drug charges were dismissed.
If it weren’t for the drug suspicions, it’s possible the whole ID business would have stayed under wraps. So, students, take this as a lesson: Don’t mix and match your illegal activities.
