Leno Gets Primetime Slot, Conan O'Brien Still to be Overshadowed

You can bet Conan’s probably pissed. He was all set to take over Jay’s time slot on NBC once Leno’s contract ran out, and even though that’s still the case, he’s still going to be behind the big man.

In a desperate effort to get ratings-winner Leno to stay with NBC, they decided to give him a 10pm timeslot every night. Sound like a crazy insane move? Well, it’s not.

  • First of all, they got Leno to stay. That’s a huge accomplishment in itself.
  • The new 10pm timeslot will allow them a huge sigh of relief that they won’t have to develop original programming to fill that void, since Leno will be there every night.
  • Leno will now have no competition at that hour, and people who may have not wanted to stay up for late night might now be turning in, (myself included).
  • Conan still gets Jay’s spot, meaning more viewers for him as well.
  • I think Letterman is approaching screwed.

Turns out NBC still knows how to do a few things right. All this happens in May 2009, so you’ve got some time to adjust your schedule.
