Liger Attack Probably the Most Terrifying Thing in the World

At Safari’s Wildlife Sanctuary in Broken Arrow, 32 year old Peter Getz has been mauled by a liger and is now in critical condition after the attack. A “liger” for those of you not familiar with genetic experimentation, is a half tiger, half lion, and they’re truly frightening because of how enormous they are. Watch that video.

The liger, “Rocky,” is normally described as a big baby, but this time a bit of animal instinct kicked in when he was being fed, puncturing Getz’s neck and back as well as injuring some vertebrae. Getz was in Rocky’s cage when he wasn’t supposed to be, and no one knows why. Being in the same room with a sabertooth tiger-ish creature is probably not a good thing when they’re getting ready to chow down on some lunch.

Everyone at the zoo is wishing Getz a speedy recovery, as do we here at OTR. But hopefully this doesn't discourage people from genetically mashing up animals in the future, because ligers are freaking awesome.

Very sad, but I hope they don't euthanize the liger for a human mistake. Posted 10/31/2008 10:53 PMReply
