Lipstick On A Pig And Hypocrisy On The Campaign Trail

Lipstick On A Pig And Hypocrisy On The Campaign Trail

Never have cosmetics and politics been as fused as they are in this election. First, we were subjected to endless references to Sarah Palin as a pitbull with lipstick. See, it’s because she’s tough but also feminine. Clever, huh? Many people must have thought so since it made headlines everywhere.

But now a different animal in a lip shade is making the news. At a campaign stop in Virginia, Obama said of McCain’s attempt at portraying himself as a change agent, “You know, you can put lipstick on a pig, but it’s still a pig.”

And along came the outrage!

The McCain campaign has demanded an apology for the sexist, disgraceful insult of his VP. Wait, what?

As a CBS article puts it, “It’s honestly like being stuck in a ‘Twilight Zone’ episode in which reality has no meaning at all.”

Just last year, McCain himself said of Hillary Clinton’s health care plan, “I think they put some lipstick on a pig, but it’s still a pig.” McCain’s own former press secretary, Torie Clarke, even wrote a book called “Lipstick on a Pig: Winning in the No-Spin Era.”

It’s like the pot calling the kettle black.

Cue the accusations of racism.
