4:30 AM – Wake up. There is no earthly reason why I’m doing this. I’m not one of “those” people. No laptop is worth this.
5:00 AM – Arrive at the store, the line is around behind Best Buy all the way to the loading dock.
5:10 AM – Doors are open but they’re only letting people in like six at a time. It’s like I’m waiting in line at Cedar Point for the Wildcat. I mean, I know they don’t want people to get trampled, but seriously, pick up the pace.
5:30 AM – IT’S SO DAMN COLD.
5:40 AM – You know, I got here right at 5 because I thought all the dumbass people in line would already be inside.
5:45 AM – Finally warmth, there are arrows to the computer section which has apparently moved.
5:47 AM – Nope, the arrows are to the back of the computer line. I’m so screwed, I should have camped out.
6:00 AM – Line is moving fairly quickly.
6:10 AM – Line has stopped.
6:14 AM - I'm realizing the irony that I woke up at 4:30 AM and I'm currently staring at an entire wall of coffee makers. I'd take a nap in the appliance aisle right now if it were socially acceptable.
6:30 AM – Seriously? Line still stopped. Someone’s phone alarm has been ringing for the last five minutes. It’s driving me crazy. I’m going to investigate.
6:40 AM – I’m going insane, where is this coming from?
6:42 AM – It’s the guy behind me, I figured that wasn’t possible since it was in his damn pocket. He’s very apologetic, but offers no explanations of his deafness.
6:45 AM – Line still is not moving. Some guy goes up to investigate.
6:48 AM – Guy comes back. “If you want a laptop and don’t have a ticket, you’re probably screwed, they don’t have many left.” People groan, some leave. I start to sweat. Another guy goes to investigate which laptops are left.
6:50 AM – Guy comes back. “They’re all sold out of everything except the VAIOs.
6:51 AM – YES YES YES YES YES YES. Now just these ten people in front of me have to not buy VAIOs and I’m good.
6:53 AM – Waiting in line with my VAIO ticket, unless there’s some massive screw up, I’m golden.
6:56 AM - Rocking out to what seems to be an AC/DC cover of "O Holy Night."
6:57 AM - Recognizing people left and right. I used to work at this Best Buy way back when.
7:00 AM – Checkout, my computer arrives. Cashier girl is cute. Too early for flirting, just look up my Reward Zone card.
7:02 AM – Walking through the parking lot, VAIO in hand for $400 cheaper than it should have been. VICTORY! Finally, a laptop that can run both the internet and Microsoft Word at the same time. That can be unplugged from the wall without shutting off. That can play Casino Royale on Blu Ray. OK, that’s just an added bonus.
Hope you all were as lucky as I was.
