For months, Joaquin Phoenix has paraded around in his bug-eyed designer shades, Johnny Cash-esque suit and homeless man beard, leaving many arm-chair analysts wondering if the former Hollywood heavyweight was pulling an Andy Kaufman and/or in desperate need of psychiatric care.
Crazy or not, Phoenix has been adamant about one thing: his budding rap career and forthcoming debut album. Many have doubted the authenticity of his claims about becoming a hip-hop artist, but as it turns out, he wasn’t kidding.
This candid video comes from his impromptu performance at the LIV nightclub in Miami Beach, and, in true crazy man fashion, it ends with Phoenix verbally attacking an audience member before jumping into the crowd to engage in a gentlemanly bout of fisticuffs.
Chances are ol’ Joaquin is pulling the wool over our collective eyes, but as time goes on, it’s getting more and more difficult to think it’s all an act. I mean, he actually wrote lyrics to a song that’s presumably on his debut album, so he’s either extremely dedicated to his gag or completely sincere.
