McCain Gives In To Presidential Debate, Ole Miss Says Hell Yeah

After what’s felt like weeks of uncertainty, but was really only two days, McCain has come to his senses and agreed to attend the presidential debates tonight at Ole Miss. All of Oxford, MS is breathing a collective a sigh of relief. If this whole thing didn’t work out, the Rebels were ready to hunt down McCain’s campaign with pitchforks in hand.

But what about Johnny’s big plan to fix the economy instead? Is America a-okay now? The Los Angeles Times explains what went down on the bailout bill:

McCain did not participate in congressional negotiations on the bill, although he did suggest a White House meeting on Thursday that included President Bush, key lawmakers and the presidential candidates. That meeting ended with no agreement, and some on Capitol Hill accused McCain of political posturing.

This morning, Sen Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) said that Bush needed "to respectfully tell Sen. McCain to get out of town. He's not helping, he is harming" the negotiation process.

That’s something Bush hears all the time, so it must be quite the role reversal for him. For his sake, let’s hope McCain is a little more useful tonight when it comes to verbally sparring with Obama.

The debate tonight at the University of Mississippi was supposed to be on national security and foreign policy, but the candidates will be free to discuss whatever they choose, using questions from the moderator, PBS' Jim Lehrer, as a starting point.

That should keep the door plenty open for gaffes and slip-ups.

So tune in tonight to catch those blunders and find out the answers to all your burning political questions: How are we going to fix this effin’ economy? Does Obama have the experience to lead the nation? And what’s the deal with McCain’s left eye?
