Laura Elena Zuniga Huizar earned the Miss Sinaloa crown in July and the Miss Hispanoamericana crown last month. Now she may have earned herself some jail time after being arrested with seven men carrying assault rifles, pistols, ammo, and cash. She and her accomplices are suspected of involvement with the notorious Cuiliacan narcotics cartel.

According to the Latin American Herald Tribune:

Beauty queen Laura Elena Zuñiga Huizar was arrested along with seven men while carrying arms and thousands of dollars in cash in the western Mexican state of Jalisco, police said Tuesday.

 

The state's police chief, Francisco Alejandro Solorio, told reporters that the eight suspects, who were traveling in two SUVs, were arrested Monday night at a checkpoint established by army troops and police in the Guadalajara suburb of Zapopan.

 

Police seized two AR-15 assault rifles, three pistols, nine ammunition clips, more than 600 rounds of ammunition of different calibers, 16 cell phones and about $53,000 in cash from the suspects…

 

Jalisco police chief Solorio said the beauty queen told officers she and her companions planned to go on a shopping trip to Bolivia and Colombia.

Shopping? Um, yeah, good one. Is that like the “My dog ate my homework” for felons? You’ve got to give it to Huizar, though: she’s got one of the prettiest mug shots that’s been seen in a long time. It’s just such a tragedy that la vida loca may result in Huizar walking around in one of those gas station attendant-esque orange jumpsuits and not a bikini.
