Remember Dick Tracy, the snazzy yellow trench coat-wearing detective with the walkie-talkie wristwatch? No? Well, Van Der Led, a European electronics manufacturer, apparently does since their new WM2 device looks like a modernized version of Tracy’s signature watch.
However, instead of a walkie-talkie, the WM2 features a built-in quad-band GSM cell phone. That’s right – a cell phone in your watch! I’m not sure how comfortable it would be to talk on it, and frankly, I don’t care. It’s still incredibly badass, and every self-respecting college showoff needs one.
Style over comfort, people! That’s the American way.
You’d expect a phone of this size to be feature-deprived, but the WM2 packs a surprising amount of goodies in its compact shell. Like the iPhone (there’s a name I seem to mention way too much; where’s my royalty check, Apple?!), the WM2 features a touch screen. It may be only 1.3 inches with 260,000 colors, but it’s still a touch screen. In addition, it has 1 GB of memory for storing some music, Bluetooth to accommodate your headset and micro-SD support.
Not bad. Not bad.
Sure, the WM2 isn’t in the same league as the 3G iPhone or the Fujitsu F706i, but it’s still damned cool.
Oh, and this will be the last cell phone recommendation, because I've now covered a phone for each major region (US, Europe and Japan).
