Cowards rejoice! Now you can share that unpleasant news without having to actually talk to someone. Want to: Break up? Explain away a bad grade to the parents? Warn someone they might soon start itching? Avoid the awkwardness and go straight to voicemail.
Thanks to Slydial you can leave a message without having the phone ring first. Simply call (267) SLY-DIAL and enter the person’s cell phone number. Unless you want to subscribe for a fee or pay 15 cents to skip it, you’ll have to listen to a short ad first (this is capitalism after all!) but it’s totally worth it to bypass the conversation. Next thing you know, the recipient will mysteriously have a voicemail notification and possibly see a missed call.
Of course the founders of MobileSphere Ltd., which created Slydial, claim this has all sorts of practical applications, such as saving time by skipping long business calls, staying in touch no matter how late at night it is, or just leaving a reminder message without all the hassles of chatting.
And, although other wireless companies have offered the ability to send a call straight to voicemail in the past, most require both people to be on the same network. Slydial, on the other hand, allows users to avoid anyone at anytime, anywhere.
However, the service isn’t always perfect. Test calls have shown that the recipient’s phone may still ring once, and with that comes risks. As CNN explains, “Horror of horrors: A real conversation might ensue after all.”
In other news, since when is CNN so sarcastic?
