Non-American Leona Lewis Tapped For American Presidential Inauguration

To find a suitable act to perform at the upcoming historic U.S. presidential inauguration, America had to go to… England?

That’s not to say Americans won’t be performing as well, but the newest act rumored to be playing the inauguration is British R&B star and singer of infectious pop songs Leona Lewis. She gained fame on the British talent show The X Factor and earned a place in our hearts (and on endless repeat in our heads) with the song “Bleeding Love.”

Of course, just because Lewis is from across the pond doesn’t mean she isn’t an Obamamaniac. Before the election she was even quoted as saying, “I think Obama is amazing. He’s just so cool and articulate. Nothing fazes him.”

But at such a momentous U.S. event shouldn’t we be looking for someone a little more American Pie than British scone? I know Beyonce is hankering for the job… and if she isn’t American self-promotion at its best, I don’t know what is.

Unless, of course, Bleeding Love is a metaphor… for the bleeding economy?

This is from the UK equivalent of the National Enquirer - they regularly invent stories like this. Posted 11/24/2008 12:54 PMReply

And having a well known European entertaining us at the inauguration wouldn't be seen as inclusive to our best friends and allies...why??? Posted 11/25/2008 02:19 AMReply

I will put money down that she sings Bleeding Love but with 'bleeding' substituted with 'dreaming' in every instance. Everyone basically thinks she is singing "keep, keep, dreaming" anyway. Posted 11/25/2008 06:18 AMReply

What does this mean? "Non-American Leona Lewis Tapped For American Presidential Inauguration" and then "To find a suitable act to perform at the upcoming historic U.S. presidential inauguration, America had to go to… England?". Then comes "That’s not to say Americans won’t be performing as well.." I have news for you - it IS to say that. Who cares where performers are from? Should we be vetting performers for their citizenship status? Why???? You're a dolt. Posted 11/25/2008 06:36 AMReply

That was a lousy song, a tasteless video and a voice that sounds exactly like dozens of other crappy modern pop singers. I hope they do better than this. If they don't, I just hope she doesn't touch herself during the whole song for no artistic reason. Posted 11/25/2008 07:48 AMReply

Samantha, this a stupid, attention grabbing ploy to bolster your visibility. Your headline is ridiculous. I can't believe I found the link to this waste of blogspace on Google News. Unfortunately, to post this comment, I had to increase your hit count by one.
