N.Y. Governor Angry at SNL Sketch

SNL knows they must make people angry sometimes. They do very satirical humor about people, so they know someone is bound to get pissed. They may not have expected it to be their Govenor.

New York Governor David Paterson came out today to say he was offended and hurt by the SNL sketch about him in the programs quintessential "Weekend Update", MSNBC reports. The sketch (if you can't watch the video above), showed him as bumbling and incompetent-- but his real problem came with the fact that a big part of the sketch was pointing out Paterson's partial blindness. He is the first legally blind Governor, as well as the first African-American Governor of New York.

Gov. Paterson's office said that the portrayal was unfair and hurtful:

Paterson's office said the skit ridiculed people with physical disabilities and implied that disabled people are incapable of having jobs with serious responsibilities.

"The governor is sure that 'Saturday Night Live,' with all of its talent, can find a way to be funny without being offensive," Paterson spokesman Errol Cockfield said in a statement Sunday. "Knowing the governor, he might even have some suggestions himself."

I'm not sure if Mr. Cockfield is looking to get the Governor on the show himself, but either way, they're obviously upset. So is the National Federation of the Blind, among other people

No one could be reached at NBC for comment.

So what do you think OTR? Did the sketch go too far? Let me know.

And, to my fellow Trojans, stay dry out there. It's really coming down.
