College Dropout Stirs Up A Feud with Perez Hilton
Berklee College of Music dropout and pop artist, John Mayer, has been accused of many things over the past months, including making out with Perez Hilton, Google searching his name, being fugly, and a host of other things we really don't care about. Through it all, John continues to lay it bare on his website blog at JohnMayer.com. Regulars of the site, sadly myself, have been pleasantly tickled by his musings (most of which combat rumors on the web, kind of proving that he is Googling himself and probably editing his own wiki-page) about the definition of douche bag and a strange one in defense of Jessica Simpson. The latest one, posted on March 27, titled From the Heart..., is sweeter than pure cane sugar (and that's pretty sweet).

Here's my favorite excerpt for the kids:

"This is about a level of self consciousness so high in my generation, that it's actually toxic.

This is about the girl in her bedroom who poses in front of the camera she's awkwardly holding in her outstretched hand. She'll take a hundred photos until coming up with one she's happy with, which inevitably looks nothing like her, and after she's done poring over images of herself, will post one on her myspace page and then write something like " I don't give a f*ck what you think about me."

This is about the person trying out for American Idol, who while going off about how confident they are that they were born ready to sing in front of the world, are trembling so badly they can hardly breathe.

This is about me, the guy who walks through a throng of photographers into a restaurant like he's Paul Newman, but who leaves a "reject" pile of clothes in his closet so high that his cleaning lady can't figure out how one man can step into so many pairs of pants in a week.

This is about a young guy who maintains a celebrity blog that subsists on tearing other people down but who has wrestled with a lifelong battle for acceptance as a gay man."

Does anyone else smell a feud between Johnnie Mayer and Perezie Hilton? I won't address how contrived this blog post is, but I will say that I will continue to be entertained by the opposition that will ensue.

Mayer does need to lay off of these posts though, the self-deprecation is not attractive and it definitely doesn't make me reconsider the state of "us." For further reading, please note his play on speaking about self-consciousness and the line from Kanye West's "All Falls Down," I'm still trying to figure out why he felt the need to include that portion.
